Rarotonga in the Cook Islands is a great place to spend a romantic holiday or special occasion. There are several private beachfront villas in Rarotonga – and booking into one of them is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Romantic villas are located all around the island, and nothing is too far away because the Ara Tapu ring road that travels around the outer edge of the island is only 32 kilometres from beginning to end. There is a regular round the island bus service or you can hire a scooter, drive or pedal your way around. Wherever you choose to base yourself on Rarotonga, you won’t be far away from a large variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and eateries.
You can sample a great range of cuisines and be assured of friendly local service. And you can choose between quirky little beachside eateries that appear to be little more than a thatched hut, or more elegant restaurants serving a full range of international meals. Wherever you eat, the food will be delicious and fresh and the prices will be surprisingly good.
On Muri Beach your choices include the well known Sails Restaurant, Stefano’s and The Flame Tree among others. Sails Restaurant features a fabulous view over the beach and a wide range of food options including fabulous smoothies to cool you down after a walk along the sand. Stefano’s is a gorgeous little Italian restaurant with only a few tables so it’s important to book. The authentic pasta and sauces are homemade by the Italian owners and the food is legendary among visitors to Rarotonga. For sophisticated fine dining in a stunning garden location, the Flame Tree Restaurant can’t be beaten.
Travelling anti-clockwise around the island you will come to Titikaveka and Vaimaanga along the island’s southern coast. You’ll be glad you discovered the lovely Pawpaw Patch Restaurant which is small and intimate with fabulous food and friendly staff. For fresh food that’s well cooked and tasty, a visit to Vaima Polynesian Restaurant and Bar is a special treat that’s right on the beach.
If you continue along the western coastline to Arorangi, you’ll have a variety of eateries to choose from. The Wind Jammer Restaurant features a great range of international cuisine and is a great place for a romantic evening. You can also enjoy a special Asian fusion dinner at Waterline Restaurant or a fabulous meal at Tuoro. As the road travels north past the airport you’ll head towards Avarua and another large selection of great places to eat. Trader Jacks is a Cook Islands institution that overlooks the harbour at Avarua and draws visitors and locals alike. Further along the beach, you’ll find the popular Tamarind House Restaurant. It was the old government house and boasts a collection of interesting old colonial photographs. You’ll be thrilled by the service, the food and the wine.
It’s great to know that your stay at one of the private beachfront villas in Rarotonga is so close to such a great variety of places to dine.
